Monkeystack produced two interactive projection-based installations for Light Creatures at Adelaide Zoo as a part of Illuminate Adelaide, inviting South Australia to experience nature in a new light.
We are proud to be Illuminate Adelaide program partners, with Light Creatures kicking off the festival’s inaugural year in style.
Curious Creatures and Feeding Frenzy were two of the six installations at home in Adelaide Zoo as part of a wider collaboration with giant glowing lanterns and winter warmer food and drink stalls, giving South Australians something to get out of the house and excited about over the winter.
Our ‘Curious Creatures’ birds, co-created by Jimy McGilchrist, that fed out of your hand or took a snap if you came on too strong and ‘Feeding Frenzy’, developed as part of the ‘It’s Complicated’ exhibition at MOD. (who generously allowed it to be used at Light Creatures), the school of fish that are always one step ahead of the kids who attempted tirelessly to catch one, saw children and adults alike discovering the joys of interacting to the point where you forget this isn’t a real-life creature in front of you.
We are lovers of anything that combines innovation, technology and entertainment to create an unforgettable experience. Light Creatures was no exception.
The project demonstrates what we refer to as ‘technical artistry’, in this case, the combination of intricate animation and gaming elements with high-spec projectors and innovative sensor technology developed from games consoles.
70% of Light Creatures tickets had sold out before opening week had concluded and the event was extended due to popular demand. Following postpones due to bad weather and the government enforced lockdown for South Australia in June, the event sprang back into action and the remaining season sold out quickly.
It’s safe to say that the Monkeys felt right at home in the zoo!
